Lazy Dayz At Columbus Park

A beautiful gem located in Discovery Bay, St. Ann. Columbus Park is not off the beaten path, however, lots of persons are still unaware of the treasure trove that exists there. It is home to Scotchie's and Walter's Bar. Columbus Park is a free heritage site open to locals and tourists. Its a place where we can all lyme and mingle.

Columbus Park is an open air museum set on the site where Columbus first landed. The park has a laid back vibe to it where visitors can view exhibits such as a water wheel, a corn husker, 18th century cannons, a hollowed out canoe Arawak style, a Spanish water cooler, and a tally that was used to count bananas that were carried to the docks just to name a few.

They have built a replica of a bow of a ship that makes for really great pictures. Columbus Park is a great heritage site that, unfortunately, fell prey to scavengers in the height of the scrap iron industry. They have been trying to rehabilitate the property and to bring in more artifacts, but, we'll see as time goes on.

One of the staples that you will see at Columbus Park along with the artifacts is a colourful character who to date refuses to give me his name (lol). But his picture will say all the words that I cannot express myself.

After exploring the museum, one can take a stroll over to Scotchie's and sample the rich jerk products that are being prepared. I can testify that their Jerk chicken is usually on point, my relatives have enjoyed the Jerk Sausage and Jerk Pork. Whilst waiting on your meal to be served, pop by Walter's Bar and enjoy a cold Red Stripe to cool you down or you can use the restroom facilities to freshen up.

The tables and chairs are made from Hogs Head (wine barrels) and the warm and friendly staff are so engaging that you don't want to leave. If you want a budget friendly, laid back, hangout spot then Columbus Park is definitely worth putting on your bucket list.
