Off The Beaten Path: Farquhar's Beach

Approximatey 2 miles down the road from the Milk River Bath & Spa, is a very, very sleepy fishing village called Farquhar's Beach. The beach is actually a bay enclosed by a seasonal sand bar that separates the small saline lake from the open sea. Here you can buy Fish, Lobster, Shrimp, Conch and other seafood delights from the fishing boats that come in during the day or from the small restaurants that dot the roadway down to the beach. There are some ancient Taino Caves (I haven't had a chance to explore as yet) located there and it is said that pottery shards line the floor of these caves. DO NOT REMOVE ANY ITEMS AS THEY ARE ON TAINO HOLY GROUND.

Farquhar's Beach has a very laid back atmosphere and everyone operates on island time down here. There are several restaurants to choose from, however, my favourite is down by Ras or Jah D, who supplies the best fry fish and dumplings ever and his prices are very economical. (Jah D, died in December, in a motor vehicle accident and his son affectionately called Fyah Flamez by me, has been running it in his stead and is doing an excellent job).

Please note that one swims at their own risk at Farquhar's Beach as there are no lifeguards and sea is very rough. After a vigorous playtime in the ocean, sit back and chill with a cold Red Stripe and have some fish and dumplings. Great location, great food and great vibe.

Have fun, I know that I do!!!
