Off The Beaten Path: Chapelton

Chapelton is located approximately 13 miles outside of May Pen, and it was once the parish capital of Clarendon. Once a bustling market hub, this sleepy, somewhat forgotten historical town still wear her stripes with pride. Whilst, not the main economic hub of the parish anymore, it has lots of historical value added to it.

Chapelton is located in the hilly interiors of Clarendon and it boasts the parish's oldest high school (The Clarendon College) and the second oldest church (St. Paul's Anglican Church). There is a park, that houses the town clock that is protected by a bust of a Maroon, the Maroon protector is Cudjoe of the Maroons who is said to be the town's guardian.

The infrastructure of Chapelton hasn't changed much, however, several buildings have been renovated. The clock in the park is also a Great War monument as it lists the names of those who had fought bravely in The Great War. The names listed were the Sons of Clarendon. Chapelton would be an ideal location to create a heritage site, so as to drive Community Tourism for the benefits of those living in and around the area.

Take the trip to Chapelton and enjoy the heritage that the community offers to its visitors.
